Champion Two-Year-Old and Golden Slipper hero Sebring, is one of the most exciting stallion prospects to retire in recent times. By Champion Freshman Sire and Champion Sire of Two-Year-Olds More Than Ready, he is from the immediate family of Golden Slipper winner and important speed sire, Baguette.
Sebring is out of a mare by Danehill’s Golden Slipper winning son Flying Spur. We have seen inbreeding to Danehill’s grandsire, Northern Dancer, enjoy phenomenal success, and inbreeding to Danehill’s sire, Danzig, is succeeding with ever increasing frequency. In general, inbreeding to the broodmare sire line of a stallion often pays dividends, and this opens the possibility of breeding Sebring back over mares by sons of Danehill. Mares by stallions such as Danzero, Redoute’s Choice and Catbird – who echo the Danehill/Star Kingdom cross in the dam of Sebring should do well. Mares bred on the Danehill/Mr. Prospector cross should also be successful (Mr. Prospector will be 5 x 5 through Sebring in the pedigree of his offspring, and a third cross of Mr. Prospector in the mare is acceptable at this remove).
Looking more broadly, More Than Ready has already enjoyed success over mares from a wide range of sire lines. He has achieved remarkable results with Northern Dancer in general, and Sebring should be suited by Northern Dancer through such strains as Nijinsky II (including Royal Academy), Storm Bird (including Storm Cat and Bluebird), Be My Guest, Sadler’s Wells (including Scenic), Lyphard (including Alzao), Last Tycoon, Palace Music and Night Shift (brother to the third dam of Flying Spur). He would be intriguing with mares by Encosta De Lago (duplicating Rolls). He also looks well suited to other branches of Danzig, including Chief ’s Crown/Grand Lodge, Anabaa and Langfuhr.
More Than Ready has a strong record with a wide range of Mr. Prospector line mares. In Australia Mr. Prospector might be introduced through Miswaki (including Umatilla), Thunder Gulch, Elusive Quality, Seeking the Gold (via Secret Savings and Lujain), Street Cry, Unbridled’s Song, Defensive Play and Bellotto.
Halo, in More Than Ready’s male line, is a good combination for Sir Ivor. There is a stakes winner by More Than Ready out of a Kaapstad (by Sir Tristram) mare. Marauding and Zabeel would be two other Sir Tristram sources worth pursuing. From limited opportunity, More Than Ready has an above average strike rate with mares descending from Star Kingdom through Biscay, including Marscay.
Sebring has a daughter of Better Boy in his pedigree, and Halo/Better Boy has a very good strike rate, including a More Than Ready stakes winner out of a mare by Centro (by Century, by Better Boy). Century is a three-quarters relative to Willowy (a good stakes winner and the third dam of Sebring), and could also be brought in through Centaine and Rubiton. We also recommend Sebring with mares by Rory’s Jester, bringing together the three-partsbrother and sister, Far Vista and Baguette.
