Hollywood Park, May 16 – Former classy Australian sprinter Taikun ran a huge race at Hollywood Park on Monday going down by half a length when second in the Bullet Stakes over five and a half furlongs on the grass.
Now in the stable of Ron McAnally, the Anabaa (USA) gelding hit the front shortly after straightening only to be run down in the final stages by smart sprinter Scottsbluff in course record time.
Taikun has now run two seconds at his only two starts since being sold and transferring to the US last November.
Previously trained by Bart Cummings, who also bred him in partnership with Dato Tan Chin Nam, Taikun looked a star in the making early in his career winning seven of 14 starts and over $390,000 including Group Three victories in the STC Star Kingdom Stakes and STC Concorde Stakes.
The rising six year-old also finished second to Spark of Life in the 2004 AJC The Galaxy Gr 1, before a loss of form led to his subsequent sale.
Taikun is a half-brother to another stakes-winning sprinter in Super Groove being from the Last Tycoon (IRE) mare Tyrises, a member of the prolific Gypsy Moss (IRE) clan. |
