Hollywood, June 16 – Ex-Aussie sprinter Taikun notched his first win in America when taking out the Flame Thrower Stakes over five and a half furlongs on turf at Hollywood Park last Friday.

Now trained by Ron McAnally after being sold out of the Bart Cummings stable last year, Taikun settled off the pace before stretching out in good style to win by two and a half lengths.

The win follows two consecutive second placings, most recently a month ago when he chased home Scottsbluff in world record time in a similar race.

This time around Taikun stopped the clock in 1:00:70, still considered low flying for what is essentially an 1100 metre trip.

Taikun is from the third Australian crop by evergreen shuttler Anabaa (USA), a regular visitor to Widden Stud each year since 1997.

Anabaa (USA) is returning to Widden again this spring and has been fully booked at a fee of $49,500.
