New Zealand, August 10 – Australian bred Lucky Owners gelding The Heckler was crowned Champion NZ Two Year Old at the end of season awards ceremony in New Zealand last Friday, providing a great result for his young sire, whose oldest progeny are just four year-olds.
Trained by Murray and Bjorn Baker, The Heckler finished the season with three wins from five starts and earnings of $696,450 highlighted by victories in the Group One Awapuni Ford Sires Produce Stakes and Karaka Million.
The Heckler was purchased from the 2007 Inglis Select Weanling sale for $26,000 and was then successfully re-offered for sale by Woodridge Farm at the NZB Select Yearling Sale where he was secured by part-owner Peter Walker for $70,000 and is raced by a syndicate made up of Alistair Sutherland, Tony Timpson and Sir Patrick Hogan of Cambridge Stud, who also bred The Heckler’s sire Lucky Owners.
Standing this spring at a fee of $9,900, Lucky Owners is also the Champion Sire of Two Year Olds in New Zealand by earnings. |
