New Zealand, August 29 - Young Danehill (USA) stallion Lucky Owners was the champion sire of two year-olds in New Zealand last season and featured at Hastings on Saturday with a smart winner in The Hombre.
Trained on the track by John Bary, The Hombre led throughout with the addition of blinkers and won the 1200 metre event by a length and a half taking his overall record to two wins and a second from just three starts.
A $50,000 purchase from the Highview draft at the 2008 NZB Ready to Run Sale, The Hombre is from the handy Defensive Play (USA) mare Atlanta Belle, who ran fourth in the Group One New Zealand Oaks.
A half-sister to Group One New Zealand Derby winner Great Command, she is also closely related to Group One VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Milward, who was also by Defensive Play (USA).
A promising sire, whose oldest progeny are just four year-olds, Lucky Owners stands at Widden Stud and has had his fee reduced to $9,900 for this spring. |
