September 25 - Chris van Niekerk’s globetrotting South African champion National Colour will begin her career as a broodmare in Australia when she visits 2008 Golden Slipper hero Sebring at Widden Stud.
A winner of eight races in South Africa and Dubai, the grey daughter of Danzig stallion National Assembly proved herself the dominant sprinter of 2006 as a three-year old, winning three successive Group One races – the Computaform Sprint, the SA Fillies Sprint and the Mercury Sprint.
That magnificent feat earned her a sprint Championship, in addition to sharing the title of South African Horse of the Year of 2005 with older mare Ilha Da Vitoria.
She later won in Dubai at Nad Al Sheba and also campaigned in Europe in 2008 finishing sixth behind Equiano and Takeover Target in the Group One King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and second in the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes at Newmarket behind Borderlescott. |
