Melbourne, October 10 – Classy Lucky Owners four year-old Lucky Thunder struck form at Moonee Valley on Friday night with a stylish victory over 1533 metres in the Ratings 89 event.

Group One placed in the VRC Australian Guineas back in the autumn behind Heart of Dreams, the Danny O’Brien trained Lucky Thunder had to lug 58 kg for this assignment, but did so with ease, cruising home to win by the best part of a length.

With two wins and five placings from just 11 starts in top company, Lucky Thunder has already won more than $323,000 in prizemoney for his owners with the promise of more to come this spring.

A $210,000 purchase for O’Brien from the Makybe draft at the 2007 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Lucky Thunder is the second foal of the Thunder Gulch (USA) mare Smytzer’s Thunder.

A minor winner of two races, Smytzer’s Thunder is from the family of Group One winners Caledonian Boy and Lady of the Pines.

Lucky Owners was the Champion Sire of two year-olds in New Zealand last season, his progeny including Group One winner The Heckler, the Group One winning son of Danehill standing at Widden Stud at a fee of $9,900.
