Mating Analysis

Melbourne, February 6 - Golden Slipper winner Stratum is now equal leading first season sire by individual winners with Snitzel and Jet Spur following a debut win for Umgeton at Bendigo on Saturday.

Two year-old filly Umgeton was sent out favourite and gave nothing else a chance in winning the 900 metre maiden by two lengths.

Purchased for $72,500 by her trainer Brendon Hearps from the Chatswood Stud draft at the 209 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Umgeton was a successful pinhook having been bought by Chatswood for just $18,000 from the Lincoln Farm draft at the MM National Weanling Sale.

She is the second foal of a very speedy racemare in Edgeton, a stakes-winner of seven races at 1000 and 1100 metres with prizemoney of $335,750.

By the Rory’s Jester sire Racer’s Edge, Edgeton hails from the family of Group One winners Zonda, Golden King and Surprize Surprize.

Edgeton was one of 173 mares covered by Stratum last spring, the son of Redoute’s Choice again proving one of the most popular young sires with commercial breeders.
