Tasmania, February 25 – Promising Stratum filly Rose of Scotland made a one act affair of the $100,000 Tasmania Magic Millions at Mowbray on Wednesday when she careered away to beat the previously unbeaten stakes-winner Strike the Tiger by more than three lengths.
It is the second time in her short career that the Charlie Goggin trained Rose of Scotland has made the headlines as she was the first winner for her sire Stratum when scoring at the same track back in December.
The filly is turning into a great money spinner for her connections considering she was purchased for just $47,500 from the Kambula Stud draft at last year's Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale at Morphettville.
Another successful purchase for Joe O’Neill’s Prime Thoroughbreds, Rose of Scotland has the overall record of two wins and a second from just four starts with prizemoney of $71,940.
"I told Charlie I would buy him a nice filly," O'Neill said.
And she fitted the bill - she was a really nice filly and I didn't expect to be able to afford her."
"But I was lucky to get her and this is just great to win such a race as this - a major thrill for everyone involved."
"Provided she pulls up well she will be going to Adelaide for the Magic Millions (2YO Classic) there."
Rose of Scotland is the third foal of the Encosta de Lago mare Ares de Lago, who is closely related to dual Group One winner Mnemosyne from the Better Draw family.
Stratum has a big draft of 21 yearlings catalogued for the 2010 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale starting next Monday. |
