Melbourne, February 27 - Classy Stratum filly Crystal Lily bounced back to top form with a sizzling win in the Listed MRC Chairmans Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Sixth beaten just over two lengths behind Star Witness in the Group One MRC Blue Diamond Stakes at her last appearance, the Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra trained filly made amends for the defeat when she jumped brilliantly from gate 11 and crossed to lead before dashing right away to win the 1100 metre dash by nearly five lengths over Bedhrah.
Crystal Lily was partnered by Brett Prebble who flew in from Hong Kong for the meeting.
“I’ve ridden some lovely horses for Mathew (Ellerton) and David (Moodie) before and she’s an exceptional one as well – she’s pretty special,” Prebble said.
“She gave me a lovely feel, she relaxed and I reckon she was better today than the other day because that run had probably taken the edge off her and she relaxed properly.
“She’s just a sprinting type filly, I’d love to ride her and drop her in one day over 1400m and you’ll see a different horse again,” he added.
A homebred for Contract Racing, Crystal Lily has won two races and placed twice from just five starts earning $178,000.
Despite the ridiculous ease of her win connections remain opposed to any trip to Sydney for the Golden Slipper, although if Crystal Lily pulls up well she may race again at Flemington in a Listed race on March 13.
Crystal Lily is from the good producing Snippets mare Crystal Snip, who has left six winners led by stakes-winner Crystal Wit and the smart Crystal Sprite, dam of this season’s high class three year-old colt Carrara.
Crystal Snip was not surprisingly sent back to Stratum last spring, so a full sibling to Crystal Lily should be in the pipeline. |
