Sydney, February 28 – Golden Slipper winner Stratum made it two winners in two days when exciting prospect Éclair Mystic saluted at Seymour on Sunday following hot on the heels of his brilliant daughter Crystal Lily, a runaway winner of the Listed MRC Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
The Robert Smerdon trained Éclair Mystic was sent out a raging hot favourite and delivered the goods for punters scoring by half a length in the 1200 metre maiden.
The gelding showed the benefit of race experience having finished a close third on debut at Mornington on February 17.
Éclair Mystic was a $230,000 purchase from the draft of Lustre Lodge at the 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and was a successful pinhook having been bought for $160,000 from the Swettenham Stud Dispersal of weanlings at the Magic Millions National Sale in 2008.
Éclair Mystic is the sixth winner for former top class At Talaq (USA) filly Leica Smile, winner of the Group One SAJC Australasin Oaks.
A member of the famous ‘Leica family’ Leica Smile is a daughter of Group Two winner Leica Western and a half-sister to stakes-winner Dansino (dam of stakes-winner Zagreb) and stakes-placed Leica Vista (dam of Group Two winner Moon Dragon).
Éclair Mystic is the sixth winner for Stratum, who has some 20 yearlings entered for the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale starting on Monday. |
