The handsome Snippetson is a multiple stakes winning speedster who is a brother to The Galaxy hero, Snowland.
Snowland represents what is already established as the strongest cross for Snippets, that of Snippets over Northern Dancer line mares, which has produced more than a third of Snippets’ stakes winners. Snippetson already has two Northern Dancer crosses, but they will be 5 x 5 in his foals, so further Northern Dancer can work here. Particularly interesting will be Nureyev, and his threeparts- brothers Sadler’s Wells (sire of Scenic, Barathea, Galileo, Montjeu and Carnegie), Fairy King (sire of Encosta de Lago) and Perugino. These all give linebreeding to the famous Rough Shod II family, which is in Snippetson through Thatching, sire of his second dam. Snippets has also crossed successfully over mares descending from Northern Dancer through Nijinsky II (who could be brought in through Western Symphony, Royal Academy, Whiskey Road, Yeats and Niniski, who double the Rough Shod II family); Be My Guest (including What a Guest, Prego and Raami); El Gran Senor and Try My Best (through Last Tycoon); Lyphard; Storm Bird (particularly through Bluebird and Storm Cat); and Vice Regent and his son, New Regent. Lomond and his son, Citidancer could be good. Crossing Snippetson back over mares from his own broodmare sire line, that of Danzig should also work well. Particularly good should be Danehill and sons; Chief’s Crown; and Pine Bluff (broodmare sire of a Group One winner by Snowland).
Other than Northern Dancer, the most successful cross for Snippets has been with mares from the Star Kingdom line. Branches of Star Kingdom that have produced stakes winners for Snippets include Biscay, through Marscay and Bletchingly; Kaoru Star (through Luskin Star) and Zephyr Bay. It could also be worth experimenting with Canny Lad, who gives well placed inbreeding to Lunchtime.
Mr. Prospector through stallions such as Woodman, Miswaki (sire of Umatilla), Seeking the Gold (sire of Secret Savings) and Geiger Counter and Jade Robbery (who both give a double of the Rough Shod II family) could work well.
Red Ransom (sire of a stakes winning half-sister to Snippetson), Quest For Fame, Gilded Time, Crown Jester/Rory’s Jester and Zeditave are all worth looking for. We can also note that Snippets sired Group One winner Hasna out of a mare by a son of Slew o’Gold (by Seattle Slew), and any strains of Tom Fool, La Troienne or Grey Flight would be positive.
