Champion Australian Two-Year-Old and Golden Slipper winner, Stratum is the best son of Redoute’s Choice, in turn the leading stallion son of Danehill.
Out of a Luskin Star mare, Stratum is ideally-bred to cross with mares from the Sir Tristram line, including Zabeel (and his son Octagonal), Kaapstad, Sovereign Red, Military Plume and Marauding – all broodmare sires of Redoute’s Choice stakes winners – Grosvenor and Dr. Grace.
From the same female line as Sir Tristram comes Star Way, and Redoute’s Choice has Grade One winners out of mares by both that horse and his son Sky Chase.
Although he is out of a Star Kingdom line mare, Stratum is still likely to work when crossed back over that line. Sources include Biscay (including through Bletchingly and his sons Canny Lad, Best Western and Star Watch, and grandsons Kingdom Bay and Hurricane Sky; and through Marscay). Stratum is out of a mare by Luskin Star, but there is a graded stakes winner by a stallion bred on a Danehill/Luskin Star cross, out of a mare by Luskin Star’s son Covetous.
Considering other domestic sire lines, Redoute’s Choice has two stakes winners, one Grade One, out of mares by Snippets, and Danehill has also crossed well with Crown Jester and Rory’s Jester; Century through Centaine and Rubiton; Zeditave; and Vain (who is sire of Stratum’s second dam, but who is worth duplicating).
Stratum is a Northern Dancer line horse, but that strain will be in the fifth generation of his foals, and he could cross well over Northern Dancer through such as Nijinsky II, Nureyev, Try My Best and his son Last Tycoon.
Redoute’s Choice is sire of the outstanding mare Miss Finland, out of a mare by Woodman, a son of Mr. Prospector, as well as stakes winner out of a mare by Mr. Prospector grandson Thunder Gulch. |
