Breeder’s Cup Juvenile victor and Champion Two-Year-Old, War Pass is by a Champion Sprinter, out of a multiple Group One producing Mr. Prospector mare.

War Pass is out of a mare by broodmare sire of sires, Mr. Prospector, as are successful stallions such as Tale of the Cat, Pulpit, and Silver Deputy. There are already at least 13 individual sires which are out of Mr. Prospector mares which have sired stakes winners with Mr. Prospector inbreeding, five producing group one winners. War Pass’ dam is a Mr. Prospector/Ribot cross, and this would encourage using mares descending from stallions bred on a similar cross, such as Forty Niner (sire of Distorted Humor and End Sweep) and Cryptoclearance. War Pass should be suited by mares descending from Mr. Prospector through Fappiano (who can be found though Unbridled’s Song and Defensive Play), Mr. Prospector/ Buckpasser crosses, such as Woodman (sire of Timber Country), Seeking the Gold (sire of Secret Savings), Miswaki (Umatilla), Conquistador Cielo, Gone West (through Zafonic, and his son, Xaar), Geiger Counter, Thunder Gulch, Bellotto, and Machiavellian (who could be particularly good, and can be found through Street Cry and Vettori).

Cherokee Run and his sons have also found success with mares from a variety of branches of the Northern Dancer line. Particularly good should be Nijinsky II, who can be found through Royal Academy, Caerleon, Copper Kingdom, Western Symphony, Whiskey Road and Yeats. It might also work well to utilise mares descending from Nijinsky II’s three-parts-brother, The Minstrel (sire of Palace Music, Masterclass, Bakharoff and Chem; grandsire of Naturalism). Other potentially good Northern Dancer crosses here include mares descending from Deputy Minister (Dehere); El Gran Senor and Last Tycoon who are both broodmare sires of Cherokee Run stakes winners; and Storm Cat (who would be particularly good through Giant’s Causeway and Tale Of The Cat, who has sired a stakes winner in War Pass’ family). An exciting result is that Cherokee Run has a stakes winner out of a mare by Danzig, which suggests mares by Danehill and his many sons will suit as will other strains of Danzig in Anabaa and Perugino.

War Pass has the potential to work well with the Turn-to line through Sir Ivor (sire of Sir Tristram), Stop the Music (sire of Sackford and Squill), Roberto (through At Talaq, Brocco, and Red Ransom) and Halo (through Don’t Say Halo and More Than Ready).

Cherokee Run sired Champion Chilukki and Kafwain are both out of mares from the Damascus line and it would also be possible to try the Damascus line through mares by Salieri.

Cherokee Run also has a stakes winner out of a mare by Irish River, from the Riverman branch of the Never Bend line. This would encourage trying mares by Brief Truce or Rivotious.
